Riyadh Day 1

Day 1 · Riyadh

After breakfast, begin your tour at Diriyah, the cradle of the Saudi state, where ancient ruins along the dry bed of the Hanifa valley reveal the kingdom’s history and traditional oasis life. Continue to the National Museum of Saudi Arabia; its 28,000 m2 of galleries trace a journey through culture, art and history from pre-Islamic Arabia to the present. In the afternoon, visit Murabba Palace and witness the grand history of the capital.

Riyadh Day 2

Day 2 · Riyadh

After breakfast, visit Masmak Fortress, a sturdy citadel built in 1865 with 18-inch-thick walls and an 18-metre watchtower at the corner. Then head to the Heritage Souq to shop for frankincense, myrrh, copperware, jewellery and traditional dress. In the evening, ascend the Kingdom Tower Sky Bridge for sweeping night views of Riyadh.

Riyadh—Al-Hofuf—Riyadh Day 3

Day 3 · Riyadh—Al-Hofuf—Riyadh

Drive east to Al-Hofuf and explore Al-Ahsa, one of the largest natural oases in the world. With a professional guide, tour Al-Qarah Mountain, a 210-metre limestone landmark that stays cool in summer and warm in winter. Enjoy an Arabic lunch at a local estate at midday.

Riyadh Day 4

Day 4 · Riyadh

After breakfast, head to the Edge of the World (Jebel Fihrayn), perched atop the Tuwaiq Escarpment about 90 km from Riyadh. Once an ancient seabed, the hike to the top takes roughly 15-30 minutes, passing fossil beds and dry riverbeds, with the occasional wild camel adding a touch of wilderness.
